    Henry Ginsberg：2型糖尿病患者不但血糖水平高，同时有很多并发症，例如高血压、低HDL-C、高TG、高LDL-C，同时常合并肥胖，所有这些都是心血管危险因素。很多流行病学研究显示，糖尿病患者发生心血管事件的总体风险增加2~4倍。在临床试验中，尽管应用他汀类药物治疗有助于降低2型糖尿病患者的心血管风险，但是患者发生心血管事件的绝对风险还相当高。

   <International Circulation>: Type 2 diabetes is closely associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). Could you please talk about the risk of type 2 diabetes for heart disease patients?

    Dr Henry Ginsberg:  Patients with type 2 diabetes not only have high glucose levels， they have a multitude of complications such as hypertension， low HDL (High Density Lipoprotein)， high levels of triglycerides in the blood， abnormal levels of LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) and they are often obese. All these are CVD risk factors. The overall risk in many epidemiological studies have shown that diabetics have 2 to 4 times more likely for CVD events. In clinical trials even if they respond relatively well to statin therapy by lowering their CVD events， those events in an absolute sense is still very high.
